Amarok on other Desktops and Operating Systems: NonKDE Desktops - Handbook entry

completed by: Salma Sultana

mentors: Valorie Zimmerman

Thorough explanation of the Amarok build on non-KDE desktops, such as Gnome, Enlightenment, XFCE, Fluxbox and LXDE (if it's possible!); both how to install it, and quirks in running Amarok without KDE.  Requires some wiki markup, as well as screenshots for illustrating the text. Installing Amarok on non-KDE desktops is required of course.

Looks like Amarok will install on Enlightenment: http://i486.net/2010/11/21/enlightenment-e17-on-debian-etch/ , on XFCE: http://jorge.fbarr.net/2008/08/06/acer-aspire-one-tips-and-tricks/ , Fluxbox: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=142&t=11774&start=240 , LXDE: http://pclinuxos.info/2010/07/15/amarok-music-player/ . This was just some quick googling, and I hope they are helpful to you.

http://userbase.kde.org/index.php?title=Amarok/Manual/AmarokOnOtherPlatforms/NonKDE_Desktops exists, but needs to be written, marked up, and illustrated as a handbook page. Please look at some of the existing Handbook pages to get an idea for style and layout.

http://userbase.kde.org/Tasks_and_Tools will get you started. http://userbase.kde.org/Quick_Start is a bit more in-depth.

http://userbase.kde.org/EditMarkup is important, as are http://userbase.kde.org/Toolbox and http://userbase.kde.org/Typographical_Guidelines , along with proper spelling and grammar. I'll work with you on this.

Please come into #amarok and #rokymotion (Freenode IRC) with questions -- even if I'm not around, they are both full of helpful, knowledgeable people.
